Security

All personal and credit card information is encoded using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology before being sent over the Internet.

All computers connected to the internet are theoretically vulnerable to break in, and ours are no exception. Assuming we do have a security breach, a hacker wouldn't find much on the system. We only store the last six digits of card numbers which wouldn't help them at all. The first digits are never written to disk at all.

Credit card transactions are issued a digital certificate, ensuring that your data can only be read by our transaction system as long as your browser shows its secure mode symbol (such as a key or closed lock).

To make the most of the security on our site, we recommend using either Netscape Navigator® version 6.0 and higher or Microsoft® Internet Explorer™ version 5.0 and higher, both of which enable SSL. We also recommend setting your browser's preferences to accept cookies and enable JavaScript™.

Online Terms of Use

By registering to access Hart Publishing Online Journals or by purchasing individual articles using the Pay-Per-View service, you are indicating that you accept the terms and conditions set out below.

Tables of contents and abstracts of articles may be accessed free of charge by all users.

The full texts of journal articles (referred to below as 'the Contents) may be accessed only by authorised users. 'Authorised User' is defined as either:

an individual who is authorised to access the Hart Publishing Online Journals content through a secure network at a subscribing institution, via his/her affiliation with a subscribing institution as a current student, faculty member, library patron, or employee
an individual who holds a valid electronic personal subscription
an individual who is a member of a society that has arranged for access to Hart Publishing Online Journals content for its current members
an individual who has purchased access to a single article on Hart Publishing Online Journals, and who accesses that article within the allotted timeframe

Institutional Access

To qualify as an 'authorised user' of the Contents, your institution must have a valid electronic subscription to the relevant journal.

An appropriate Domain name or IP address range(s) equivalent to that institution's site must be registered to activate each electronic subscription.

Consortia Licenses

Consortia licences are not available at this stage.

Individual Access

Individuals with a valid electronic subscription to the relevant journal(s) may also qualify as authorised users by registering a name and a password.

Pay-per-view

Individuals and institutions that do not subscribe to the print edition may purchase single articles. This allows the download of a PDF file for personal non-profit use only.

Members of selected societies may obtain individual access via their society membership.

Access to full-text Hart Publishing Online Journals content for society members is controlled by a subscriber id linked to a username and password.

The subscriber id is assigned by the society and the username and password by the individual member.

Terms and Conditions of Use

Users undertake to ensure that the intellectual property rights of the copyright holder and the software owners and the moral rights of the authors of the Contents are not infringed.

Users may access, search, view and make single printed copies of individual articles for personal use only.

Users are not permitted to

Engage in systematic copying or downloading of the Contents or transmit any part of the Contents by any means to any unauthorised user
Allow copies to be stored or accessed by an unauthorised user
Make the Contents available in any other form or medium or create derivative works without the written permission of Hart Publishing Ltd
Generate collections of the Contents or use any part thereof in multiple copies for group or class use without the written permission of Hart Publishing Ltd
Alter, amend, modify or change the Contents
Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise alter software

Hart Publishing Ltd reserves the right to withdraw the subscriber's access to the Contents in the event of systematic breach of these conditions by any authorised user.

The Hart Publishing Online Journals service is supplied on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis.
