2006 International Law Essay Writing CompetitionEssay Topic:"International Law post 9/11: What is the role of the rule of law in times of crisis?" Prize: The winning prize is 1000 Euros. The winning essay will be published in the subsequent edition of the Irish Yearbook of International Law. The winning entrant will receive a copy of the relevant edition of the Yearbook. Second and Third place essays will receive honourable mention in the Yearbook; and abstracts of second and third place essays will be published. Submission Guidelines: 1. All essays must be the unpublished work of a single author. 2. Entrants agree that if chosen as the winner of the Essay Writing Competition that their essay will be published in the Irish Yearbook. Entrants who receive honourable mention agree to have abstracts of their essay published in the Irish Yearbook. 3. Essays must not exceed 15,000 words. 4. Name of the Entrant is not to appear anywhere in the essay with the exception of the cover page. 5. Cover page shall contain the following: Name, Address, email address, and title of the Essay. 6. Deadline for submission of essays is 31 March 2007. 7. Essays will be blind peer-reviewed. 8. Decisions of the ad hoc committee of the IYIL Editorial Board on the awarding of prizes are final. Only the winners will be notified of the results. No other correspondence with entrants will be entered into. 9. Essays must follow the style guide of the IYIL available on the website at www.hartpub.co.uk/style.html. 10. Competition is open to all with the exception of those individuals associated with the Yearbook, as members of the Editorial Board, Advisory Board or as Correspondents. 11. The Irish Yearbook reserves the right not to award a prize in any given year. 12. Essays must be submitted by email to j.allain@qub.ac.uk, with an accompanying abstract of not more than 300 words. Judging Criteria: Winning essays will be selected on the basis of the following: - relevance; - quality of research; - depth of analysis; - clarity and elaboration of argument; and - writing style. |
